Larry Bird, full name Larry Joe Bird, is a former American professional basketball player. He is widely considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time and has made history in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Bird spent most of his career with the Boston Celtics, one of the NBA's most storied franchises. He was selected by the Celtics sixth overall in the 1978 NBA draft, and he immediately made a major impact on the team.
Nicknamed "Larry Legend" for his legendary performances on the court, Bird was known for his versatility, shooting accuracy, playing intelligence and fierce competitiveness. He was capable of scoring from anywhere on the court, grabbing rebounds and dishing out assists with consummate ease.
During his career, Bird won numerous titles and honors, including three NBA championships with the Celtics in 1981, 1984 and 1986. He was voted NBA MVP (best player) three times, in 1984, 1985 and 1986, and was selected to the NBA All-Star Game twelve times.
